ABSTRACT
The attention was evaluated in 17 young men in the 25-52 age group, being 10 students of the SESI Paratibe School that work in the daytime and study at night. The subjects were divided in 2 groups. Young men that study at night (CONTROL, n=7) and young men of the SESI Paratibe School that work in the daytime and study at night (YMWS, n=10). The evaluations of attention were made by the Digit Symbol, d2, Span of digits in direct and inverse order tests. Data analyzed by the T-test, represented with (Mean ± SEM), with p <0.05. YMWS presented reduction in the focused attention (29.7 ± 2.70), in the sustained attention (308.6 ±
20.71) and in the mental manipulation capacity when compared to their respective controls, (42 ± 2.06); (398.14 ± 34.25) and (4.29 ± 0.36, p <0.05).
