Mental disorders are among the major diseases of era, and depression has shown to be the most prevalent and disabling ones. Ghrelin is an important appetite-regulating hormone that is involved on mood regulation and seems to play an important role in the pathogenesis of depression. It was demonstrated that the acute administration of this hormone reverse depressive symptoms, however it also was demonstrated that it chronic central ghrelin administration increases both anxiety and depression-like behaviour. The findings are still controversial and despite the benefits promoted by some medications, they still have the change on weight as a side effect. There are much more to be enlightened about this mind-body connection.
